The Start to a New Generation…

For those of you who have followed this blog for a while, you probably already know I’m an avid video game nerd.  For those of you, who’ve randomly stumbling across this post from somewhere over the rainbow…well, now you know.

Over the past few months, excitement has steadily been building in the world of gaming.  For the most part, this is normal. It’s natural to expect a lot of highly anticipated releases centered on the biggest shopping season of the year. But, this year it’s different.  This year, gamers of all genres, of all loyalties, young or old, or even those who are of the uninitiated, have something to be excited about.

It’s this year, which a new generation of video game consoles will be unleashed to the general public.  The time of the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One will soon be upon us.

For the sake of clarity, the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and the Xbox One (XbOne) can be classified as home video game entertainment devices.  Like the Super Nintendo Entertainment system and the Original PlayStation did before, these highly advanced machines bring the ability to play graphical and interactive video games inside the household.

So why is this so exciting? It’s a question that many of us gamers will have a tough time answering.  I’m sure many will try, quoting hardware specifications or launch day game releases as an explanation for their enthusiasm.  Others still may look to the future and try to explain where these machines could take us.  But I can expect many of you reading couldn’t care less about these facts.  Those of you who do, well you’re probably the ones explaining all this in the first place.

So all I’m left with is trying to explain why I’m excited for the start of this new generation.  I like shiny new things.  Blame my short attention span, the affinity for sparkling objects, or even perhaps a shallow nature.  But at the end of the day, If you’re looking for the newest, latest, and best of the technology of tomorrow…well, you already know about these video game consoles…and really, know a lot more than me.
